Firespiral Labryinth Serpent Twilight Review

Firespiral are a small UK brand that manufacturers beautiful woven wraps, right here in the UK. I love being able to support small businesses and it’s always a bonus when their products are as beautiful as those created by Firespiral Slings.

Weave: Alchemy

Price for a size 6: £178

Initial Thoughts

As usual the wrap arrived beautifully packaged with a hand written note, which really adds the personal touch and is an added bonus of buying from a small company that really do go the extra mile for their customers.

Each Firespiral wrap comes in a wash bag with an attached label with the name and size of the wrap as well as an instruction booklet.

Upon opening the wrap I was really surprised by how soft it was straight out of the bag, and it only improved after being washed and used a couple of times!

I did wash this wrap prior to using, and would recommend doing so. The alchemy weave is a fairly loose weave, and washing prior to use helps to tighten the weave somewhat making it less pull prone. However, the benefits of this weave far outweigh the risk of a pull!

Testing

I haven’t been able to test this wrap as much as I would have liked, due to still recovering from the birth of my youngest, but will update as I use it more.

After washing and line drying the wrap it has been mainly used for my newborn during warm weather. Despite multilayer carries we weren’t at risk of overheating; the low GSM and airy weave of the wrap allowed for good circulation of air and wasn’t too bulky for a teeny newborn!

The closest comparison I can make to the weave structure is to Yume’s plush weave – for more detail you can check out this review. It creates an airy and somewhat cushy feel even for a low GSM wrap.

One of the things I really love about this wrap is that you basically get two different wraps, and can switch it up to suit your mood, depending on which side you have facing out. This wrap comes dual hemmed as a reversible pattern, which is fantastic as it truly can be worn either way out!

Unfortunately, as yet I have been unable to test the toddler-worthiness of this wrap as yet, but I firmly believe that in a multilayer carry it will be an amazing wrap. I didn’t find that it was diggy, unlike some other lower gsm wraps that I have tried, and I have pretty picky shoulders.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Excellent newborn wrap
  • Excellent beginner wrap with low GSM
  • Easy care
  • Sustainable
  • Good in all weathers, even with multilayer carries.

Cons

  • More pull prone than some other weaves
  • Need multiple layers for big kids

Summary

In summary, there is very little not to like about this latest weave from Firespiral slings. It is suitable for big ones and little ones and is an excellent learning wrap.
